If you're after a certain cosy, rough-round-the-edges charm, look no further than this former boathouse, located in a small cove, with its own beach. Complete with a double bed for two and dining table with bench seats, adding to that wood-cabin feel, this hideaway boasts a compost toilet, shower and a hot tub, for those steamy Summer evenings. Wind-up lanterns are provided as no electricity is available. Nearby villages of Newton Ferrers and Holbeton offer further opportunities to take the sea air.

Wedged between Christchurch harbour and the Solent river proudly stands a long sand-bank littered with hundreds of brightly coloured, privately owned beach huts. In particular, one No. 164, a new, sea-facing addition to the row sleeps six guests in a cosy nook based up a small flight of stairs. The hut contains a fridge, working cooker and solar-powered lighting, so you can find your trunks in the dark for that midnight dip. This hotel is one of the best for a great beginner's surf spot. Close proximity to the beach means you may not only have a beach view, but also the opportunity to get out there and surf without having to go far for some snacks or a bed (if the day tires you out) or even a bath (which is present in your room! Wow!)
